例如:
They will be able, as it were, to see and hear us in action. (《新概念》第三册,第38课《The first calendar》)
He gets the solid shape, as it were, inside his head—he thinks of it, whatever its size, as if he were holding it completely enclosed in the hollow of his hand.
有时so that , in order that, for fear that, lest引导的目的状语从句可以用直陈语气,也可以用虚拟语气。
I arrived early in order that I should get a good view of the procession.
Many firms, for instance, have great difficulty in obtaining technical or scientific books from libraries because they are unwilling to have their names entered as having taken out such and such a book, for fear the agents of other firms should be able to trace the kind of research they are likely to be undertaking.
be that as it may = however that may be 即使如此
come what may = whatever may happen
Whether wind or rain comes = Come wind or rain
Be that as it may, the nerve poison does its business with man far more quickly than the blood poison.
Come what may, I will give it a try.
Come wind or rain, I will accompany the blind man to factory every day.
